WARNING: EXPLICIT REENACTMENTS OF EVERYDAY LIFE FOLLOW

Two weeks ago Waldo shrugged when we pointed out the American Family Association's repulsion at the second outbreak of "explicit open-mouth homosexual kissing" ("Consider the source," he sniffed. "They won't even write the word 'gay' to denounce it"), on As the World Turns- a clip of which they helpfully added to their website:

Something's clearly going on in the world of television, because since then, gay people kissing is busting out all over the place.

Gossip Girl, the CW teen show that crosses Dynasty with the movie Metropolitan, dangled the prospect of an outing for weeks before finally telling all just recently:

Brothers & Sisters, the Sunday night ABC soap, has decided a gay commitment ceremony is a good season ender:

(Click here for a recap of the show and how things have changed since THAT SCENE in Thirtysomething twenty years ago).

And Grey's Anatomy has a story line between two closeted, active duty soldiers, one of whom is about to go into surgery for a brain tumor:

All of which may well seem like too much of a muchness for the average TV viewer. But as our sister said when learning the Anglican Archbishop of Adelaide, Australia (try saying that three times really fast) is seeking to have Hell's Kitchen taken off the air because Gordon Ramsay swears so much, "So don't watch it!"

For the rest of us who've spent- well, some of us of a certain age- a really really long time never expecting to see anything like our lives portrayed honestly and respectfully anywhere, it's kinda nice to have lived this long.
