Adulterers of a feather contribute together

Democrats are calling on Sen. David Vitter (D-La.) to return campaign contributions from Sen. John Ensign after reports today the Nevada Republican could be under investigation by the FBI.

“With news out that John Ensign is now under investigation by the FBI, will admitted sinner David Vitter return the $15,000 Ensign gave to him?” said Deirdre Murphy, a spokeswoman for the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee. “After admitting to a serious sin a few years ago, David Vitter ought to do the right thing, come clean, and return Ensign's money.”
According to media reports, the FBI has begun contacting former Ensign aides in what's being called a “preliminary” investigation into the relationship the two-term senator had with a former administrative assistant. Doug Hampton has accused Ensign of helping him line up lobbying jobs with Nevada-based companies in an attempt to smooth over an affair Ensign had with his wife. The Senate Ethics Committee is conducting a separate investigation.

Vitter's office declined to comment.
