Phantom news sources challenge SC papers to see who's behind the promo. SC newspapers fail.

Palmetto Morning's got their pom-poms out over this report:
THIS FIRST — READ IT AND REAP — Business Facilities magazine has ranked South Carolina number one nationally for “Economic Growth Potential,” third nationally for “Automotive Manufacturing Strength” and fourth nationally for “Best Business Climate.” The rankings come days after South Carolina was again named among the Top Five Business-Friendly States by Pollina Corp of Chicago.
Trouble is, when you click their link, it doesn't go to Business Facilities magazine. It goes to a newspaper in Anderson. That story has a link that's, well, dead. But the link- if you find it- is interesting mainly for its cheerleading tone and all the aspects of development in which SC is a non-player. Remove all the hype and it's just a story about how Boeing and BMW will hire lots of people on non-permanent bases to bolt things together.

The story's not unlike the one a few weeks ago from a self-promoting website that predicted Boeing will bring a buzillion dollars to SC between now and the end of time. It turns out to be run by a council of men who all benefit from state econ dev subsidies.
