First came the cheerleading about inevitability of victory in the marriage equality cases before the Supreme Court. Then came the media's stuttering, halting attempts to explain complex legal principles in a couple of minutes overlaid with artists' sketches of justices.
If you've figured out what the Supreme Court will do, you're way smarter than I am.
So I look to Lyle Denniston. Denniston, whom I had the privilege of meeting several times and subbing for on a panel once, has spent nearly 55 years covering the court. For my money he's right up there- if not as famous, as Anthony Lewis, who died the other day at 85, just before these cases began.
