State fairs, small towns, Iowa, diners in New Hampshire, cable news programs, Staten Island—rightwing candidates used to be able to peddle their anti-LGBT bigotry in all of those places without fear of being confronted by an actual queer person. Those days are over.
Why can't a republican candidate simply answer, "All folks should have the same rights, no more, no less."? Or is that why I continually find myself identifying as a libertarian, rather than a republican?
ReplyDeleteI do not understand the thought process that would knowingly leave a segment of society without the same rights as others. I don't need to be gay, a woman, black, etc., etc., to understand that the rights of one should extend to all. And at what point do candidates realize that for every vote they garner with such tripe, they lose another by someone turned off by such foolishness? Of course, we may not have reached that point yet, which is why they continue with such pandering.
