Another week, another blackmail threat

From Politico's Ben Smith:

"Harvey vs. Pelosi

"At an avail today, Nancy Pelosi wouldn't comment on — but didn't deny — the report that movie mogul and longtime Clinton backer Harvey Weinstein had threatened to cut off money to House Democrats if she didn't agree to a revote in Florida and Michigan.

"And in a statement from his spokesman, Matthew Frankel, to my colleague Jeffrey Ressner, Harvey didn't back down:

While Harvey has the greatest respect for Nancy Pelosi, the Speaker's work on behalf of the country and her success in taking the House back for Democrats in 2006, he did convey to her the belief that it is in the best interest of Senators Clinton, Senator Obama and the historic values of the Democratic Party to find a way to revote Florida and Michigan and not disenfranchise millions of voters. Harvey believes the only way Democrats can lose the presidency in 2008 is by repeating what happened in 2000 — and not count all the votes. Harvey assumes that all Democrats stand united behind the principle that everyone should have the opportunity to vote.

"The threat of money, at this point, makes little sense. The most powerful financial force in American politics right now — by very, very far — is the Barack Obama money spigot."

Why Big Harv would want to make the election harder for his party's congressional candidates to get a ticket leader congressional candidates are already complaining is dragging down the ticket- well, that must be like a silent dog whistle: only something billionaires can divine.
