The Telegraph has an affectionate farewell to Queen Elizabeth 2, the 40 year-old Cunard liner that will go out of service in the fall and become a hotel and tourist attraction in Dubai.

On one her early crossings to New York, QE2 ran into a ferocious storm. One of the passengers, Lord Boothby, disembarked with his arm in a sling, telling a reporter, "All of a sudden I was hurled off my bed, into the air, and onto the floor. My wife looked over and said, 'Get up, fool. It's too early in the morning to be drunk.'"
