Once we had big dreams.

39 years ago this evening America was transfixed by grainy, black and white images of the first men landing on the moon. It only took eight years from President Kennedy's call to the project to accomplish it, using computers with power levels a teenage would scoff at today.

In 41 months the program was over. Any possibility of a return seems at least a decade off.
