Is Katon Dawson a stalking horse for Mitt Romney?

The AFA's Donald Wildmon, SC GOP chair Katon Dawson's chief spiritual backer for the national party chairmanship, comes out with the truth:
"The Mormons played a vital role in the Prop 8 battle, and traditional marriage would have lost had it not been for their support." - Donald Wildmon, American Family Association, email solicitation
Southern Baptists have argued for decades that Mormonism is a cult, but apparently after the Catholics invited the LDS Church into the California marriage fight, the Baptists are willing to cut Salt Lake City some slack.

Wildmon knows whereof he speaks. AFA could only cough up $500,000 despite being the biggest antigay American tubthumpers this side of Fred Phelps . The LDS and their members are credit with bankrolling up to 70% of the anti-Prop 8 campaign.

So where's Dawson on the GOP refi-ing the Southern Baptist mortgage on its soul for a better rate in Salt Lake City? Will he continue to use the LDS church as the banker of last resort for the GOP's culture wars?
