Eye of Polyphemus weighs in on the bowing incident. For all their protestations over how they are defending western civilization and culture and marriage and tuna salad- and democracy, of course- it's funny how the Christianists of the blogdom scorn voters who don't do what they are told (and which begs the question ,
where was the big hairy eyeball when President George W. Bush was getting all faggy and holding hands with the same fucking king of Saudi Arabia? And kissing the guy? And looking like he enjoyed it?)
I addressed this in a post last week [Cyclops opines], but I assumed it would blow over quickly without comment from the White House. But guess what? Barack Obama decided to make excuses instead and drag the whole deal out for another news cycle.
To recap: Obama bowed to King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia last week at the G20 summit in London. Barring the fact Abdullah has not been all that great an ally to the United States in the first place, it is against protocol for American presidents to bow to royalty. It is against our national character.
Obama has apparently figured that out. Through the press office, Obama now claims he was taller than Abdullah and therefore bent down to clasp his hands. To which I say poppycock. Obama was very clearly bowing out of respect. Arab leaders around the Middle East have praised him for doing so. That he thinks hecan hoodwink the American people into beliving otherwise shows his contempt for the people who foolishly elected him as well as those of us wise enough not to.
