Daniel J. Cassidy's living hell is walking around all day, every day, never knowing how close he is to a sodomite.

Hendrik Hertzberg has heard of the latest GOP shenanigans in South Carolina. He mentions Will Folks. It's worth reading anyway.

Trapped by conversational bores? Mark Edmondson recalls a couple of classic Grouchoisms:

I should have said what the estimable Groucho said when he was similarly accosted in Duck Soup: “You know,” Groucho tells his assailant, “you haven’t stopped talking since I came here? You must have been vaccinated with a phonograph needle.” And if my accoster got mad and wanted to storm off affronted? Another Groucho line would have served me well: “You can leave in a huff. If that’s too soon, you can leave in a minute and a huff.”
Who knew? Despite all the Republicans' moralizing, adultery is highly profitable:

The AP is also reporting on a possible second affair Ensign had in 2002:

The disclosure resurrected questions about a two-week period in 2002, when Ensign abruptly dropped from public view. A person familiar with that episode, speaking on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the matter, said Tuesday the senator told a close associate the absence followed an earlier affair.

Both Cynthia and Doug Hampton received pay raises over the nine months during which the affair occured. Mrs. Hampton's salary doubled when she was promoted to treasurer of Ensign's PAC in February 2008. Mr. Hampton, whose normal salary was $13,555 per month, received $19,679 for April 2008, his last month on staff. Ensign says the affair took place between December 2007 and August 2008.

And one final, suspicious detail:

Additionally, the National Republican Senatorial Committeemade twice-monthly payments, generally $500 apiece, to Brandon Hampton, who Republican officials said was the couple's son. The payments began in March of last year and ended in August, when Ensign's office says the affair ended.

Brandon Hampton was reportedly hired to do research work for the committee.

Senator Jim DeMint's promising wingnuts a book in return for their love offerings. He's also dead-set on defending the right of ministers to incite their congregants to attacks on gay Americans.

And it was almost All Sodomites All The Time in Savonarola's fevered brain today:
