-and there's still no oil off the SC coast

Today's anniversary of the purchase of Alaska in 1867 highlights a couple of items:

-Sarah Palin is William H. Seward's fault. But for the purchase, she'd be making speeches to right wingers in Russia.

-When the "Drill, baby, drill!" crowd plumps for festooning the eastern seaboard with oil rigs, recall that while oil was discovered in Alaska in 1968, it took nine more years before a drop of oil was produced.
