It's an entrepreneurial thing

Remember NY state senator Hiram Monserratt, who was expelled after being convicted of domestic violence on his girlfriend? Well, he's got a "spiritual advisor" on his campaign team (he wants the seat back, and is making the gay tribe his Scary Other this time).

The advisor has an ex-gay employee who explains the gay scam (h/t the invaluable Joe.My.God):

JORGE: When a person is gay, the only way he can be changed is through Jesus. Because, the people who are gay, are not happy. It is an instrument for them to gain money.

To gain money?

REYES: Yes. Because, when you have a partner, or relationship, everything is for one objective. They live a life that is a lie, but when they are alone, they are truly not happy.

You gotta pile up the cash, see, because when your partner dies you don't get Social Security survivor benefits. You're income's going to drop, on average, by about a third. All those domestic partner benefits corporations grant? If you actually use any your partner- the employee- gets taxed on them as his/her income. You won't get your spouse's pension, either.

Andrew Sullivan weighed in on the subject of marriage equality as well today:

Our marriage was already recognized by DC before this wonderful day. Now for the joint tax returns! Except we file a married return for state taxes and then have to say we are total strangers for the federal returns.
Even though we have been together for six years, shared a household for five and a half years, pooled our finances for five and a half years and will be celebrating our third wedding anniversary this summer, we are total strangers as far as the federal government is concerned. And if the federal government recognized our marriage, I would have been an American citizen three years ago. In fact, if I had married a longtime female friend 20 years ago, I would be a long-standing citizen right now. (Yes, a heterosexual marriage would have voided the HIV ban automatically for the past 22 years.)
What does the federal government call a legally married man who has paid taxes for twenty-two years and has a PhD, and a job? A faggot.
