Mr. Romney, pandering in Virginia with God's Weatherman, says:
[F]or us to have liberty here, for us to be able to protect ourselves from
the most evil around the world, for us to share liberty with our
friends around the world, we must have a military second to none, so
strong no one would ever think of testing it.
Romney's comment must rest on one of two assumptions: either we have gotten to be second to somewhere else; or we have reason to suppose we will in the future.
Next to whom are we second? The answer, pretty obviously, is no one.
