Mrs. Graham's Crackers

She was checking under her snacks as well as her bed.

The late President Richard Nixon is the gift that keeps on giving, 39 years after leaving office and 19 after dying. His presidential library recently released another 340 hours of taped conversations with the great, the good, and the awful, including when he was working the phones for some affirmation after his April 30, 1973 TV speech. In those remarks he announced the purge of some of his closest aides, and tried to get a grip on the burgeoning scandal.

Among those with whom the President talked, The New York Times reported, was Rev. Billy Graham, whose previous walk-ons in the Nixon tapes include some fairly unsavory comments about Jews. This time, "Mr. Graham...told Nixon that 'it was your finest hour' and reported that his wife thought the scandal was 'all a Communist plot.'"
