Great minds think alike

NC House Speaker and leading GOP Senate candidate Thom Tillis won Waldo's Cynic of the Century Award a while back for this bit of mental gymnastics over the 2012 NC marriage equality ban:
A question and answer session prompted questions on students’ minds, among those issues was the upcoming Amendment One that would constitutionally ban homosexual marriage.
“It’s a generational issue,” Tillis said. “The data shows right now that you are a generation away from that issue.”
According to Tillis, researchers have predicted Amendment One will pass with approximately 54 percent, but Tillis, who voted to pass the amendment, believes it won’t remain long.
“If it passes, I think it will be repealed within 20 years,” Tillis said.
Now, it seems, Tillis has a mental soul-mate, when it comes to passing laws that are pointless but electorally happy-making:
Russian President Vladimir Putin on Sunday defended the country's recently enacted law that bans pro-gay "propaganda" around minors and said that people visiting for the Sochi Winter Olympics will not have an issue.
"It seems to me that the law that we have adopted does not hurt anyone," he said on ABC's "This Week." "Moreover, individuals of non-traditional orientation cannot feel like second-rate humans in this country because they are not discriminated against in any way."
