You'd think the GOP's only African-American senator would have some hosting pull when it comes to presidential candidates in the must-win South Carolina primary, right? So Senator Tim Scott is hosting a series of forums featuring himself and the candidates, and invited frontrunner Donald Trump.

Merrill said Trump may be available in January for such an event if the offer still stands. Otherwise, he said Trump will be back in the Charleston area at the end of September or early October to campaign. “Maybe we’ll do our own town hall,” Merrill said.
