One of the many things I miss about the Northwest is that people there have a much more normal sense of normal (plus, public TV there makes its own shows).

When I arrived in Portland, Oregon in August 1980, Darcelle was already an Oregon institution, with her own float in the Rose Parade. Everybody went to her shows.

Now, like Dame Edna, she has become a monument, a gigastar:
