Forty years ago, I thought I was going somewhere in politics.

A nice surprise in Politico's convention coverage today- a video about the 1976 gathering in Kansas City, where I wrote press releases no one ever read for the Ford Campaign. Mostly I was part of a large cadre of enthusiastic college Republicans who were shipped from event to event to be a cadre of enthusiastic college Republicans.

Other than being in the gallery the night of the nomination vote- when no one knew who would win, Ford or Reagan, the best thing about my trip to Kansas City was buying several cases of Coors beer. You couldn't get it east of the Mississippi back then, and when I returned to St. Andrews University in August, I sold the stuff for $2 a can.
