The President has appointed Roberta Achtenberg to the US Commission on Civil Rights.
Opposing her appointment to a federal post in the Clinton administration, Senator Jesse Helms- who called all black people "Fred" behind their backs- called Achtenberg "that damn lesbian."
After the farcical appointments of the last administration filled the commission with people who sought to defend the rights of oppressed white persons, it's a useful course correction.
The toy newspaper Washington Times is very upset, and we can imagine one blogger is apoplectic.
