Life amongst the squatterati

More bitchery among the consultant/bloggers:

It doesn’t happen very often, but our founding editor got flat-out “owned” (or “pwned” as the cool kids say) during a live internet talk show on Thursday.
What happened?
Well, the host of the show – establishment GOP political consultant Wesley Donehue – revealed that he had recently purchased the internet domain name WillFolks.com. This practice – known as “cybersquatting” – is frequently employed by politicos in an effort to spread misinformation about their rivals.
Who else has been “cyber-squatted” in South Carolina? Well, it happened to former S.C. Gov. Mark Sanford during his 2002 campaign, and it recently happened during the GOP primary for the state’s third congressional district. Various lower-level S.C. State House races have seen instances of cybersquatting, too.
Donehue – who gained infamy for creating an anonymous attack site targeting former U.S. Sen. Fred Thompson three years ago -  has yet to post anything to the WillFolks.com website address, but said he is contemplating his options.
It’s the second time in recent years that Folks has been “squatted” (digitally, anyway … :))
Not long after resigning from the governor’s office in 2005, a former staffer to S.C. Gov. Mark Sanford purchased one of Folks’ corporate domain names when it briefly lapsed. Folks lawyered up (as he is wont to do), and the Sanford staffer backed down …
No word yet on how he’s handling this latest “cybersquat.”
