SC's political Borg

The effect of repeating old smears seems to be having no effect.

The latest  barrage against me hasn't generated the spike in readership past ones have, nor the slug's trail of attacks and threats in the comments section.

The SC blogdom is a weird place. Seems like everyone on the right is either a consultant, or wants to be a consultant. They attack and argue, but cannot seem to countenance dissent or challenge. Argue back? Unheard of. How dare one ask?

In this space I've taken to heart all sorts of criticism. I'm a sharp debater at heart, but I have tried hard to dial back the tendency to shoot fish in barrels, call made up facts just that, and play truth squad when it seemed warranted. What I'm learning is in the right-wing bubble, no dissent of any kind is tolerable. Lee Atwater is the tutelary saint of South Carolina conservatives, beaming down- or up- on whatever tactics are unleashed to silence opposition.

Well, good on ya, as the Brits say. Me? I plan to muddle on, endlessly bemused over how a site with such a tiny readership can induce such constant foaming at the mouth in some places. I have every confidence that if I focus on the ways spinach is good for you, there'll be flying monkeys launched to drop cabbages on my head for wanting to socialize agriculture and end crop subsidies for broccoli farmers.

  1. Actually, given the depth of his intellectual reasoning, I'd be a little worried if ol' Cass was cheering me on.

  2. Did he say something positive? I'm just conditioned to expect that when my photo leads a post, nothing good will follow.

  3. Oh, no. Nothing positive - Just ad hominem attacks, guilt by association and a dash of random nuttiness thrown in for good measure. You know, the usual.

  4. I'm giving up on that quarter. Having a personal stalker who tracks down and publishes where I live is a luxury I never expected blogging to afford. He's all yours.
