March 19: The president of Brazil was welcomed by the US president to the White House:
As President Trump gushed over his Brazilian pal's authoritarianism, The New Yorker reported,Standing side-by-side in the White House Rose Garden, Bolsonaro told Trump the U.S. and Brazil stand together in support of “liberties,” including “traditional family lifestyle,” and “against the gender ideology or the politically incorrect attitudes and against fake news.”
The authoritarian leaders taking power around the world share a vocabulary of intolerance, insult, and menace. Jair Bolsonaro, who was elected President of Brazil on promises to end crime, right the economy, and “make Brazil great,” has spent his career gleefully offending women, black people, environmentalists, and gays. “I would be incapable of loving a homosexual son,” he has said. “I would prefer that my son die in an accident than show up with some guy with a mustache.” As a national legislator, he declared one political rival, Maria do Rosário, “not worth raping.” Immigrants are “scum.” The United Nations is “a bunch of communists.” He supports the torture of drug dealers, the use of firing squads, and the empowerment of a hyper-aggressive police force. “A policeman who doesn’t kill,” he has said, “isn’t a policeman.”
March 25: The Austin (TX) Statesman says the Lone Star State's annual War on the Gays is back:
Opening what promises to be one of the most contentious fights of the 2019 legislative session, a Senate committee on Monday approved a bill to give state-licensed professionals — including doctors, lawyers, pharmacists and barbers — broad protection for actions taken according to their religious beliefs.Opponents said the bill, and more than a dozen similar measures that have not yet been acted upon, would give religious people, particularly conservative Christians, the power to discriminate against gay, lesbian and transgender people as well as anyone they don’t want to do business with or serve.
March 27: After decades of being called national security threats by conservatives and Christianists- including by the president, who is busily teeing up US transgender service members for discharge- the federal government has declared The Gays deserve protection.
After a Chinese gaming company bought the US gay dating app Grindr in 2016, a little-known agency, The Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States, has forced the foreign devils to sell Grinder.
Reuters reported,
Gay activist Bil Browning wrote, "Put this one on the calendar - I agree with the feds. Grindr shouldn't be owned by a Chinese company if their own country censors the internet heavily, doesn't support LGBTQ people, and regularly invades it's citizens' privacy to the point of monitoring their social media usage."CFIUS’ specific concerns and whether any attempt was made to mitigate them could not be learned. The United States has been increasingly scrutinizing app developers over the safety of personal data they handle, especially if some of it involves U.S. military or intelligence personnel.Kunlun had said last August it was preparing for an initial public offering (IPO) of Grindr. As a result of CFIUS’ intervention, Kunlun has now shifted its focus to an auction process to sell Grindr outright, given that the IPO would have kept Grindr under Kunlun’s control for a longer period of time, the sources said.
It's a generous sentiment, but a bridge too far for the most anti-LGBT administration in history. The real reason is the feds are worried the Chinese will use the app to hoodwink gays into giving up our secrets of wreaking havoc on the earth: causing floods, earthquakes, hurricanes, and economic depressions.
March 27: LGBT+ people to be stoned or whipped to death in Brunei under new sex law. How-to manuals are available from your local Iranian consulate.
March 27: Did you vote for Donald Trump while claiming you have a gay friend? You're a dumbass.
April 2: No justice at the Department of?
April 2: A high school substitute teacher reported students papering the join with fliers reading, “It’s great to be straight it’s not OK to be gay” and “Black lives only matter because if it weren’t for them who would pick our cotton”. The flier, which was also taped to walls in the school, ended with encouragement for students to join the “kkk” – the “confederate kids club.”
She got fired and banned from entering the building as a guest by the principal, who said racism and gay-bashing are not problems. Predicting a future Matthew Shepard-style event in Wyoming would not be off the mark, it seems.
April 2: With only six gay-bashing bills being jammed through, the Republican Tennessee legislature looks like a buncha pansies compared to Texas' thirteen. But they share a top priority: gutting marriage equality by hollowing out the rights straight people think God gave them.
