NYT carries an interesting item about how the provocative playwright David Mamet will blog a play of his up to and through production on Broadway. Called November, it's about a president with two middle initials who is facing re-election defeat.
Nathan Lane is set to play the lead, a president whose views are remarkably in synch with the current Republican radicals trying to do authentic conservative in various forms of drag. At one point he declares:
'In a Dec. 6 posting at www.novembertheplay.com, Mr. Mamet wrote in character about torture, “it should be recognized that information can be extracted only from those people possessing information; and that no one likes to give up their possessions without a little waterboarding.” As for gay marriage, “gays should be allowed to marry, but not to divorce; thus coupling liberty with punishment for their abominable practices.”'
