Reason has a long, fascinating article on the ghosts in Ron Paul's newsletter machine. The congressman may not have known what was in them, but he and his family made a of of money from them, and several family members worked for the venture.
The more the newsletters vented about abortion and gays and minorities, the more money rolled in.
As we have said before, Paul has gotten an outrageous free pass for ages because he's avuncular, antiwar, appeals to those disaffected by the major parties, and just shrugs off the wackos wrangling for him by saying he has no control over them. Paul won't be president, but it's something people should think about that he has managed to unite such a crowd of fringers with big-time fundraising ability.
In the meantime, NYT's Gail Collins reports Paul has been holding invitation-only rallies in Nevada. So much for candor.
