Sir Edmund falls from his peak

Sir Edmund Hillary, the New Zealander who did one of those interesting but ultimately, kind of pointless things that somehow make human existence more interesting, has died, age 88. He survived his faithful sherpa, Tenzing Norgay (immortalized afresh in the movie Intolerable Cruelty), by 21 years.
