Pause, reader, and consider the life of an original

Jonathan Williams, who carried forward the Black Mountain College legacy for half a century, has died in the North Carolina Mountains.

Jonathan Williams has many close ties with Winston-Salem.

In the 1970s Williams seemed to live at St. Andrews Presbyterian College, luring along all his friends and authors his Jargon Press published. We had a passing acquaintance, but being a politics major/journalist who didn't know enough Chinese to read a restaurant menu, much less comment knowingly on Ezra Pound's cantos, never got the opportunity to know him like a contemporary, writer Tom Patterson did. Patterson recalls his friend in this nice piece in the Winston-Salem Journal.
