Don't tell the kids they also make great water balloons-

It's been a big week for the hot-button issues of the day in Waldo's first review of South Carolina bloggers:

"This is when I knew I was no longer in South Carolina," writes blogger Mike of this photo, snapped during his trip to Australia. Snead: Live and Uncut reports SC senator Jim DeMint is one of a handful of senators holding up reauthorization of the President's African AIDS Relief program over fear money will go to "morally dubious" contraceptive devices. FITSNews says, "The [California same-sex marriage] ruling also opened up the whole gay can of worms for the 2008 presidential race, as the issue of homosexuality now becomes hotter than a pair of black assless chaps in the Florida Keys’ summer sun." That sort of glee leaves Brad Warthen frustrated: "I just want to go on record right now as saying that in the culture wars, I'm a conscientious objector. I just don't want to have this fight. I tell you how this always feels to me -- like the two sides in these culture battles are allied with each other against the rest of us. How else do you explain both sides -- from the voice of the political right to the gay rights folks -- being so happy about this development? When both the Karl Roves and the Gavin Newsoms are thrilled, it's time for the rest of us to duck, because here it all comes again."

A Lie A Day minces no words over President Bush's forswearing golf as a tribute to the military dead on his watch. American Leftists are worse than we thought: "Three of the four presidential assassins have been left-wing radicals...Rather than own that history, the Left has invented conspiracy theories that absolve leftists from responsibility." As always, Not Very Bright proves exactly the opposite. Rev. Big Dumb Chimp recaps state senator Mike Fair's renewed efforts to legislate creationism into fact. Blue South abjures comment on same-sex marriage coz the media will beat it to death on their own, but reports banjo pickers put the she-Clinton over the top in West Virginia's primary. The Columbia Conservative is busy with campaign stuff and so has taken the week off, but his last post says the party to celebrate Earl Capps getting his master's degree was a fine affair in a conservative way. The Other Brooks Brothers think SC education Association members have fancy briefcases, and cites a study showing conservatives are happier than liberals to leverage the point that liberals are ugly, too.

Let's see, who've we missed? Palmetto Scoop is miffed only one state-level politico congratulated them on their first anniversary; that Congressman James Clyburn has hired a former county council member just out of the pokey; and that a North Carolina contractor is using laborers at the SC state capitol who look like illegal aliens (y'know, Caulking While Hispanic). FITSNews ran the same story, along with items on money in politics, roller coasters, a new USC coach, and women with big bazoombas. Leonardo's Notebook is having Blogspot troubles, as have we all, it seems, but he's soldiered on to post on the marriage case (more optimistic than most), a Greek girl with an embryonic twin (no photos, thanks very much); how John McCain's campaign seems to have a magnetic attraction to lobbyists for foreign despots; how the Obama campaign is keeping the 527 urge suppressed among his followers; and that there's a Francis Marion Park in Washington SC that is getting an overdue facelift.

Walk This Way and Concrete Thoughts we write about all the time anyway, so y'all's already up to date there and there.
