Jonah Goldberg has reached a conclusion:
My own view is that gay marriage is likely inevitable, and won't be nearly the disaster many of my fellow conservatives fear it will be.
-but it only comes after 17 paragraphs of what must have been deeply satisfying gay-bashing in the service of the GOP realization that the LDS Church are their new paymasters.
Unfortunately, all political parties have fringe sects. Opposition easily takes the fringe, paints them as the center, and calls it a day.
ReplyDeleteEveryone indulges in this - neocons and leftist illuminati alike. The media trades in fallacies frequently. Activists would if they did less chanting.
There seems to be the perception that anyone who didn't vote for Barack Obama must be racist, homophobic, ignorant, or uneducated.
But I didn't vote for our new President-elect; I like free-trade coffee, I recycle, I've had gay friends, and I have a Master's. I'm also for recognizing that homosexuals should be able to have civil unions, where the state recognizes joint finances, power of attorney in health situations, and so on. I just happen to think that "marriage" is a term with religious overtones. If someone wants a marriage, go to a religious institution. If someone wants a civil ceremony, visit the Justice of the Peace.
That's all.
