Columbia – Following nationwide outrage over remarks he made earlier in the week, South Carolina Lt. Governor André Bauer attempted to further clarify his metaphor comparing poor people to stray animals.
“When I compared the poor and hungry in our state to stray animals,” Bauer explained on Saturday, “I was certainly not referring to the type of animals that we used to tie up in a bag and drown in the river because that would be wrong. It was more about the type of animals that end up at the shelter and hopefully get adopted and end up making a contribution to society.”
At a town hall meeting on Thursday, Bauer compared his grandmother’s instruction to him as a boy to not feed stray animals to how the state should treat stray animals.
Andre Bauer is proof that the south has changed. His great-grandmother would have taken that little girlie boy down to the river and drowned him.
