Boeing knew rubes when it saw them

Here's another triumph of SC economic development policy:
Announced nearly three years ago, the company’s expansion into the region created a tizzy, with developers pledging to build homes to support Google workers and elected officials claiming it was the start of the Lowcountry’s transition into a major high-tech hub.
So now Google has turned down a $2.5m grant tied to meeting employment goals, won't say how many people it employs at Goose Creek, won't say how many server farms it operates anywhere, and has surrounded its SC box with seven miles of fencing, where a second server farm building sits empty. The state therefore has no idea what it has gotten for its 1950s policy of cheap land, supine, underpaid workers and enormous tax breaks.
