Nothing can be too backward for our Jim

Senator DeMint, who has spent most of his Senate career writing blank checks for two wars, is hating public radio and TV again. Not just against SC's interests- as he has often said, none of his votes are ever about South Carolina, He wants to kill it all off.

People have thousands of TV outlets to watch he says. He must have premium cable. I wonder if he watches the soft-core stuff late at night on HBO.

Which is better, let's ask, for kids? Saturday type commercial programming paid for by cereal companies, or  PBS shows like Sesame Street that actually teach kids things before they start school?

What must it be like to be Jim DeMint? Waking up every day angry and vengeful,  issuing self-righteous press releases to cut $400m for public broadcasting while demanding immediate solutions to a $14t deficit that has his warmongering fingerprints all over it. Demanding term limits but not till he's served twenty years or so. He's for shoving the unemployed into the streets, making school students more stupid, finding liberalism in every form of the arts, letting South Carolina fall behind every other port on the east coast over the sense of purity that makes a $400,000 study for deepening the Charleston Harbor possible. He hates gay South Carolinians, and single mothers. You can look it up, he's written books about it, and has declared it and then said he didn't mean it, and then said he did mean it after all. He legislative record is nil. But he clings to his federal health care and jacked up pension and really neat salary like grim death.

80 years ago, Will Rogers said of another notorious Southern hater from Mississippi, "An empty cab pulled up to the Capitol the other day and Senator Bilbo got out."

DeMint's got that driver on retainer.

  1. Yep, DeMint is destructive to the welfare of the people and the nation but who gives him the ability to pursue his scorched earth policies? Just saying.
