Today's Charlotte Observer devotes most of a section to analyzing NC voteras' views of the GOP legislative majorities, considering key voting districts around the state. The reports find that voters- while running the predictable gamut from delighted to outraged, also include a big middle wondering if they did the right thing giving the R's unfettered power. Nationally, the state's reputation has taken a pasting as the Republicans have moved on divisive issues like a marriage equality ban and votersuppression discouragement.
A few pages later, Raleigh News & Observer columnist Jim Jenkins reports the chattering classes are chewing over "an issue that's been discussed quietly in Raleigh: whether Gov. Pat McCrory can regroup, after a seemingly endless series of gaffes, and run for a second term." Jenkins quotes one veteran consultant who wonders if McCrory is "in over his head."
Tough talk about a governor who's only been in office since January, and has huge majorities ni the legislature.
Meantime, The Observer's editorial page notes that, according to Census figures, NC's Mecklenburg County will reach a population of one million this coming Thursday. And Wake County is breathing down its neck.
