The State of Texas got handed its hat yesterday when its Republican-controlled Supreme Court ruled a gay couple married in Massachusetts can divorce in Texas.
Governor Greg Abbott, who was attorney general before succeeding Rick Perry as Head Crazy this year, argued the state cannot undo something it did not recognize as existing in the first place. The court ruling narrowly, argued Abbott waited too late to intervene in the case, and that its arguments were a crock.
It's particular slap to Abbott, who, in addition to dropping the ball on the case as AG, is a former member of the court (in Texas, every elected office, including the judiciary, can be a political base).
