Heimlich's Maneuver: try not to choke on its birthday cake

43 years ago, Dr Henry J. Heimlich published his Maneuver in the Journal of Emergency Medicine.

He called it "subdiaphragmatic pressure."

His editors insisted the name be changed because of the lives it saved in its first two months.

At 95, Heimlich used his Maneuver to save an 87-yer-old dinner companion. He died in 2016 at the age of 96, his name universally known.
