-because he's a headline-seeking hypocrite

Savonarola's dredging up a 40-year-old PBS series about Western Civilization to prove his tedious point that civilization today annoys him. Except for English pomp and Papal punishment, of course.

Life has rather moved on since 1969, of course, and the UK now allows openly gay soldiers and grants gay citizens vastly more rights than the US does its citizzens.

Which begs the question: why's Cassidy always brown-nosing Britain when the US is much closer to the authoritarian, Christianist state he so desperately pines for?

    I left the following comment for Savonarola, which probably won't make it out of moderation:

    "I notice that the clips you run here are the later, edited versions, which leave out Kenneth Clark wryly commenting on the fact that the primitive negro imagination in Africa could evoke powerful emotional connections, but not civilization."
