DeMint: Americans will ‘take to the street’ on healthcare
August 3rd, 2009Sen. Jim DeMint (R-S.C.), who said healthcare could be President Obama’s Waterloo, said Sunday he thinks Americans will “take to the street” to protest Democratic-led healthcare reform in August.
“What’s going to happen is, you’re going to see Americans take to the street in August, and go to their congressmen’s office, and they’re going to go to town halls, and I think they’re going to let congressmen and senators know that they need to keep their hands off their health care,” DeMint said on Fox News Sunday.
Two weeks ago, Democrats jumped on DeMint’s claim that stopping healthcare would be akin to Waterloo, renewing accusations that Republicans want the country to fail. President Obama even mentioned DeMint’s comments in a prime time press conference.
On Sunday, DeMint warned the Democratic plan would lead to a single-payer system akin to healthcare plans in Europe and Canada.
Americans, said DeMint, “know it’s going to cut Medicare. They know it’s going to raise taxes on the small businesses that create jobs. And they know it’s going to eliminate jobs across the country.”
Republicans have cast a surtax on wealthiest Americans, a proposal from House Ways and Means Committee chairman Charlie Rangel (D-N.Y.), as a job-killer that disproportionately impacts small business owners.
(Who knew the Lawn Jockey Caucusers were for a surtax as well? Proofread, Mr Donehue, proofread.)
More to the point: as the news is full of angry, Bible-waving, Palin-campaign-rally like mobs shouting down rational, two-sided discourse in congressional town meetings, you gotta wonder if DeMint and his Tech Guy realize they are playing with matches? What exactly does "take to the streets" mean in the context of a so far cakewalk re-election campaign?
Shouting"fire" in a crowded theater isn't the same as partying hard all night and absolving it all in Sunday School.
Waldo - your conspiracy theory is a little out of whack her. We post all relevent SC news on PNN, both liberal and conservative. A few weeks back every single link on PNN was dedicated to Governor Sanford because he was making all the news.
ReplyDeleteFor the past three weeks, Senator DeMint has dominated the news cycle and his official website (which I have nothing to do with) has been pumping out massive amounts of content including video of every news interview he's done recently. All the while, the liberal SC blogs have been pretty quiet...probably enjoying some rest at the beach. It is summer in SC afterall.
Boo Hoo, cry me a river. If you waned Emo and waxed logical I might actually give your blog a second thought. Didn't you mom tell you that stomping your virtual feet gets you nowhere.
