A while back I ran a weekly feature on the websites and other media of SC members of Congress. It quickly became apparent that with the exception of Congressman Bob Inglis, SC's delegation has no real idea of the use of an office website except as a big, sloppy, generally-neglected commercial for themselves.
Now there's a roster of all the Internet and social media outlets members of the US House employ (scroll down; it's alphabetical by state).
Majority Whip James Clyburn is the techie zero of the House delegation. He's got nuthin's goin' on. Gresham Barrett's next worse. John Spratt's a little better. Henry Brown and Inglis are a little better than that. Joe Wilson's got a hook into almost all the social media, but he has consultants on contract to blog and tweet for him.
One can find various morals in this tale. One is that when you feel you've got a safe seat you don't need to bother. Another is that for all the post-'08 blather by the GOP about gettin' in touch with the kids, so far mostly all they do is hand off the Twitter and Facebook beats to some kid on the staff.
The moral I see is that we really don't have a very tech-savvy delegation when it comes to economic development and knowledge worker industries. In a time when the whole world is a potential location site, just going through the motions tells business leaders- who are always way ahead of politicos- you're not serious.
