This is North Carolina State Senator Joel Ford. He is a Democrat and represents District 38 in Charlotte.
Ford is a Democrat in Name Only. He gets to be that because the Raleigh Republicans racially gerrymandered his district to win more surrounding Mecklenburg County senate seats themselves.
But that is good for Ford too: he wins re-election with 80% of the vote. That means he can take up space in Raleigh, get little accomplished, ignore constituent concerns, and block critics from his mayoral campaign Facebook page, all without consequence.
Yesterday Jeff Jackson wasn't afraid to walk in the Pride Parade.
Joel Ford was.
